Brand Overview
The story follows Maya Dawson, an ordinary girl who discovers she has the extraordinary ability to leap through time. From ancient civilizations to futuristic cities, Maya’s journey uncovers hidden secrets and dark forces that threaten to unravel the fabric of time itself. As she navigates through different epochs, Maya learns about her crucial role in maintaining the balance of time, facing her fears, and making impossible choices to save the past, present, and future.
Concept Origins
Tasked with creating a book cover for a class project about a girl who travels through time. This challenge inspired me to blend elements of adventure and mystery, capturing the essence of a young protagonist’s journey across different eras. The goal was to design a cover that not only attracts attention but also conveys the thrilling and dynamic nature of time travel.
Process Work
To visually represent the concept of time travel and movement, the cover design features Maya in mid-air with streaks of light trailing through her body. This effect symbolizes her rapid transit through different time periods, creating a sense of speed and fluidity. The dynamic pose and streaks convey the constant motion and adventure inherent in her journey, inviting readers to dive into the whirlwind of her temporal adventures.
Sketches
The color palette for the book cover was carefully selected to enhance the sense of adventure and mystery. A blue gradient was used for the background, symbolizing the vastness and depth of time. The gradient effect also adds a sense of movement, as if Maya is leaping through the continuum of time. White was chosen for the type to create a stark contrast against the blue background, ensuring that the title and other text elements stand out prominently.

Digital Drafts
The combination of Open Sans and Bebas Neue typefaces strikes a balance between modernity and timelessness, mirroring the book’s exploration of the past, present, and future. Every element of the design was chosen to create a visually compelling and cohesive cover that not only attracts attention but also hints at the thrilling narrative within.
